Anchor Porter

Description - Porter

Maker - Anchor Brewing Company

Notes - A pretty solid porter. Good with food, or on its own.

7/10

Anchor Christmas Ale

Description - Spiced Ale

Maker - Anchor Brewing Co.

Notes - On tap, I thought this brew had a hint of strawberry Charleston Chew. Kim thought it tasted of eggnog. Either way, when bottled, it simply had a pleasant array of spices on top of a porter base.

7/10

Abita Pecan

Description - Ale brewed with Louisiana pecans

Maker - Abita Brewing Co.

Notes - Nut-flavored alcohols often don't taste much like their respective nut, and the same is the case here. Although, this ale does preserve the dry character and aftertaste of the pecan.

7/10

Pumpkinhead

Description - Pumpkin Ale

Maker - Shipyard Brewing Co.

Notes - This brew has a distinctive tang to it that really makes the beer. And still with all the spices balanced nicely, this is a fine choice for the harvest season.

8/10

Publick House Pumpkin Ale

Description - Pumpkin Ale

Maker - Southampton

Notes - Kind of a disappointing pumpkin ale. There isn't a lot of flavor and what's there isn't very good. People complain a lot about lite beers, and this is like an accentuation of what people don't like about those.

4/10

Scarecrow

Description - Golden Pale Ale

Maker - Wynchwood Brewery

Notes - A little bitter on the hops, this import leaves a bit to be desired in the other flavors. But still, not too bad.

6/10

Night Owl

Description - Pumpkin Ale

Maker - Elysian Brewing Company

Notes - The spices are really prominent in a good way in this pumpkin ale, especially the cloves and nutmeg. Sweet and light, it's reminiscent of pumpkin pie.

8/10

The Sixth Glass

Description - Quadruple Ale

Maker - Boulevard Brewing Co.

Notes - A very strong ale, Sixth Glass is deceptively sweet yet has just as prominent a hops undercurrent. It close to a barley wine, but not as overpowering.

8/10

Ozeki Dry

Description - Dry Sake

Maker - Ozeki

Notes - Pretty standard affair, but overall drinkable.

6/10

Obama Kurozou Kouzui

Description - Sake: Junmai Ginjo

Maker - Wakasa Fuji - 山岸昭治

Notes - This less refined sake takes its inspiration from the black elephant. With a little more bite than it's dry cousin, it is truly a blast of flavor.

8/10

Obama Shirozou Unsui

Description - Dry Sake: Honjouzou

Maker - Wakasa Fuji -山岸昭治

Notes - On the bottle, it says that Obama was the first place in Japan to see an elephant. That's the inspiration for this sake, though thankfully, it didn't taste like elephant. It was quite sweet in a delicious way.

8/10

Woop Woop 2007

Description - Cabernet

Maker - Galvanized Wine Group

Notes - This is a really heady wine with a punchy kick. It's as fun to drink as it is to say.

8/10

Vino e Buono 2001 Muscat

Description - Muscatel

Maker - Spero Winery

Notes - Without a doubt the most unique muscatel I've tasted, this wine has less than subtle hints of oak and smokey flavor. Low on the sweet and highly intriguing.

8/10

Two Rivers 2007 Syrah

Description - Syrah

Maker - Chateau Deux Fleuves Vineyards

Notes - A really nice Syrah, with a hint of something special.

8/10

Concannon 2005 Petite Sirah

Description - Petite Sirah

Maker - Concannon Vineyard

Notes - A nice sirah with a very smooth texture and not too strong on any one highlight. This is 'drinkability.'

8/10

Imagery 2005 Petite Sirah

Description - Sirah

Maker - Imagery

Notes - Quite possibly the most amazing wine I've ever tasted. It enveloped my palate with sweet and tart and tannin in perfect balance with a full, floating body.

10/10

Gnarly Head Zin 2007

Description - Old Vine Zinfandel

Maker - Gnarly Head

Notes - This was a sweet and all around well-balanced zin. It's pretty awesome at a bargain price.

Weltenburger Klost

Description - Asam Bock

Maker - Klosterbrauerei

Notes - This is an amazing brew. It's slightly sweet, and has a richness that fills your entire mouth. Tingly and delicious.

9/10

Sam Adams Lite

Description - Lite Beer

Maker -The Boston Beer Company

Notes - At first taste, it's alright, but then it comes in with an unpleasant aftertaste. It gets better as you go along.

6/10

Sam Adams

Description - Boston Lager

Maker - The Boston Beer Company

Notes - An all-around good beer. Medium bite, depth, and flavor.

Lion Stout

Description - Stout

Maker - Lion Brewery

Notes - This one has a pretty 'burned' overarching flavor, and then a meaty overtone that lies on top. I felt like I was drinking the lion's dinner.

6/10

Farmer's Friend

Description - Irish Style Ale

Maker - Palisade Brewery

Notes - A very pleasant ale with good depth and just a little bite to even out its maltiness.

7/10

Boulevard Pale

Description - Pale Ale

Maker - Boulevard Brewing Co.

Notes - With the distinctiveness of the hop flavor in this brew, it was a lot closer to an IPA in my mind. Didn't have a lot else going for it.

5/10

Lunar Ale

Description - Ale with added yeast for bottle fermentation

Maker -Boulevard Brewing Co.

Notes - Dark in hew, this ale is quite close to a brown. It's rich and full, and has nice complexities.

8/10

Zon

Description - Witbier

Maker - Boulevard Brewing Co.

Notes - Nice and cloudy, this witbier has a pleasant, light flavor. With hints of orange peel and coriander, it's quite refreshing.

Bully! Porter

Description - Porter

Maker - Boulevard Brewing Co.

Notes - It took a while to get through this one. Not because it was bad, just because it was heavy. Heavy on the coffee/nut flavors.

6/10

Boulevard Wheat

Description - Wheat Beer

Maker - Bouldevard Brewing Co.

Notes - An entirely average wheat. Strangely not very good with food, but has pleasant sweet highlights.

6/10

Balistreri Late Harvest Zin 2006

Description - Late harvest Zinfandel

Maker - Valistreri Vineyards

Notes - This wine has probably the most flavor of any I've ever had. It's super sweet and heavily infused with tannins.

8/10

Winter Welcome Ale & Banana Bread Beer

Description - Winter ale & beer brewed with bananas

Makers - Samuel Smith Old Brewery & Wells and Young's Brewing Co.

Notes - These two were recommended to me to be mixed. Trying them on their own: the banana beer was too sweet, and the winter ale was bitter and too simple. But, together they made a smooth, slightly sweet concoction with great depth.

Banana: 7/10
Winter: 5/10
Together: 8/10

Falshback

Description - India Brown Ale

Maker - Boulder Beer Company

Notes - My first India Brown Ale, and I have to say that I prefer it to regular IPAs. It has the hop bite of an IPA and the complexity of a brown.

7/10

Scorpion

Description - Pale Ale

Maker - Moab Brewery

Notes - Just like the name suggests, this ale has a slight bite to it. But it has enough other subtleties that make it nice.

7/10

Franziskaner Weissbier

Description - Hefeweissbier

Maker - Spaten-Franziskaner-Brau GMBH

Notes - An alright hefe, but a little too much tang.

6/10

Summit Pilsner

Description - Bohemian Style Pilsner

Maker - Summit Brewing Co.

Notes - I don't remember much about this one, but it was the best pilsner I've had. There was a lot more depth than I'm used to in a pilsner.

Summit Hefe

Description - Hefeweizen

Maker - Summit Brewing Company

Notes - This hefe is just full of flavor. Just the right level of tang and fruits for a mellow, delicious finish.

8/10

Summit Sacandia Ale

Description - Belgian Style White Ale

Maker - Summit Brewing Company

Notes - This very uniquely spiced ale is a real treat. A friend likened the flavor to that of soap, but it really is in the best way possible. Sweet and flowery is how I would describe it.

8/10

Summit Maibock

Description - Maibock

Maker - Summit Brewing Company

Notes - A distinctive hop flavor, but rather than overpowering, it's well supported by the malt undercurrent.

8/10

Cuvee Van De Keizer

Description - Belgian Ale

Maker - Brewery Het Anker

Notes - This one packs quite a punch on attack - pun intended. The fruit elements are more than present to the point that it's almost unlike beer. Good, but a little sweet.

7/10

Singletrack

Maker - Boulder Beer Company

Notes - This ale is great with food. It has a nice sharp, metallic highlight with a really mellow malty finish.

7/10

Notes - Excellent sweet Belgian-style brew. Many pleasing textures float through this one-of-a-kind beer.

8/10

Schneider Weisse

Description - German Hefe-Weizen Ale

Maker - Brauerei Georg Schneider & Sohn

Notes - Full bodied, yet not heavy. A little bite, yet no sting. Creamy, but light. This weiz does everything right.

9/10

Element 115 Lager

Description - San Francisco Lager

Maker - Flat Earth Brewing Co.

Notes - With the unique flavor highlights of a much higher alcohol beer, this lager comes in at only 5.5. Guess it must be that special element.

7/10

Dead Horse

Description - Amber Ale

Maker - Moab Brewery

Notes - "a traditional English style mild ale with a well balanced malt to hop ration." Very smooth.

7/10

Desert Moon 2005 Cab

Description - Cabernet Sauvignon

Maker - Desert Moon Vineyards

Notes - A super full-bodied cab with a strong butter presence and hints of blackberry, cassis, and black cherry. A little heavy, but highly unique.

9/10

Haiku

Description - Sake

Maker - Gekkeikan

Notes - Haiku has a fairly astringent attack, and finishes sweet. It mellows out as you drink more of it.

6/10

Moonstone Raspberry Sake

Description - Raspberry Sake

Maker - Sakeone

Notes - This was a very sweet sake for sure, but the raspberry essence didn't offer enough of a flavor. It was more dominated by the harsher tones of the sake.

5/10

Rooftop Rodeo Bronco Brew

Description - Golden Ale

Maker - Estes Park Brewery

Notes - A buttery golden ale, which is quite reminiscent of biscuits. Drinkable all around.

7/10

The Stanley Hotel Redrum Ale

Description - Ale

Maker - Estes Park Brewery

Description - This ale has a strong hop presence as well as the buttery overtones that are common in several of their other brews.

6/10

Samuel Smith - Oatmeal Stout

Description - Oatmeal Stout

Maker - Samuel Smith Old Brewery

Notes - Full of dark coffee highlights, and a biting brown ale attack, this is a heavy one.

7/10

Sapporo Reserve

Description - Malt Beer

Maker - Sapporo Brewing Company

Notes - The Reserve has significantly more bite than the original, making it a little closer to a pilsner. It was still pleasant though.
